My Goals For The Next Year
I don't know about you, but I've always struggled with setting goals. Maybe it's because I'm scared of failing, or because I tend to set unrealistic expectations for myself. Regardless, it's essential to set realistic goals and help yourself achieve them, and I'm dedicating myself to doing just that. For the next 12 months, I'm committing to the following:
1.) Finish Buzzkills manuscript
2.) Edit manuscript
3.) Submit the manuscript to publishers
Always keep your goals in mind and take advantage of every opportunity you're given. I, for instance, already have a plan to finish my manuscript by the end of September. I've also spoken to an editor I met at a writers conference; at that same conference, I met an agent who I'm hoping will represent me. I'm far and beyond where I ever thought I would be. This time last year, my writing goals were nothing more than vague ideas and daydreams. Today, it's crazy to see how such time-consuming work can appear so simple, like "There are only 3 things to do before your dreams come true!" (Rhyme not intended). What's more, these goals are realistic, given where I am with my career.
No matter where you are in your writing process, I recommend setting goals; write them in a way that feels natural for you. Maybe your first task is sitting down and starting your list- perhaps you're further into the process like I am. Wherever you're at, the only way you can fail is to stop trying.
What are your current goals?
